For Sale: Fairbanks and Cole Banjo/Guitar 1880
In 1880 Fairbanks joined with W.A. Cole, a well known Boston banjo performer
and music teacher, to form the Fairbanks & Cole company. While Cole was largely
involved in promotion of the company and its banjos, Fairbanks was primarily
responsible for the technical innovation.
We have here a wonderful Fairbanks and Cole Banjo/Guitar or 'Banjitar' as they are sometimes called circa 1880. This is a great piece of history and is quite rare. Has original hooks, screws and tuners. The round heel pre dates it to later when they began constructing "boat heels" and has a single screw neck attachment. The replica tailpiece was made from moose bone here at the shop. We believe it to have had a repro neck at some point in its history. It has a great warm tone and shines on old ragtime tunes. Comes with custom built coffin style case. An amazing relic from the past!
Feel free to contact the shop with any questions. Our hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10am to 5pm e.t.
