For Sale: Beautiful and rare Baldwin Style D customized by Liberty Banjo (sold) |
|
Offered for sale is my early (1969) Baldwin Style D which, according to my best information, was one of a very few instruments customized by Bob Flesher of Liberty Banjos in the early '70s. The gold plating has a patina suited to its age and the metal parts are ornately engraved to a level far beyond that of a typical Ode, Baldwin or Baldwin/Ode Style D banjo. The rear of the headstock, neck heel and resonator are all beautifully carved and gorgeous herringbone purfling extends the length of the fingerboard and the diameter of the resonator. The Liberty customization places this instrument above and apart from all other Style Ds this player has seen in nearly 40 years of playing Baldwin/Ode banjos. It cracks like a firecracker and is built to a quality standard that would make Chuck Ogsbury proud.
