For Sale: Tom McKinney's 1938 Gibson RB-75 Clone |
|
This is a very special banjo. It was owned by the late great Tom McKinney, who was an incredible banjo picker, and an Asheville NC legend. This was one of his personal banjos that I purchased from his now late widow. This is the "Asheville Crasher" which was Tom's nickname. This banjo has incredible tone and plays wonderfully all up and down the neck, with a perfect set up.
As you can see in the pictures the notes left with the banjo show it is a frank neat neck, with a cox rim and a Blaylock tone ring. I believe the resonator was also a cox but not sure. This banjo comes with several very personal and unique items including: One of toms capos, his custom leather strap with the nickname "Asheville Crasher" on it, one of toms bandanas, a funeral program from Tom's funeral, and one of Tom's vinyl records, "Uptown on Five."
Overall great condition, a few scuffs and nicks on the resonator have been photographed. Red lined case is included which have become valuable in on their own.
This is a amazing playing and sounding banjo, and a very special banjo from an insanely talented player that made a huge impact on the banjo world. Feel free to ask any questions/request more pictures. No licks included.
