This banjo’s first owner was Blake Williams. He owned and played the banjo about 5 years, and sold it to one of my favorite pickers on the circuit today, Mr. Derek Vaden. This banjo has an incredible tone, and A TON OF POWER!!! It’s super responsive to the touch, and has that great low end, and super clear highs like only a Granada has. This banjo is standard Granada specs, Gold plated and engraved hardware, with curly maple resonator and neck and rosewood fingerboard. The figuring on both the neck and resonator are supreme and what I would consider well above average.

The only modifications I know of on the instrument are as follows; the back of the neck has been speed necked to a super smooth and comfortable finish for maximum playability. (Sonny Osborne loved the speed neck, and all of the Chief’s and KRAKO’s came standard with this feature) There are two very small plugged holes from where Blake had a sliding capo installed, they are almost invisible, (spikes are installed currently) and the fifth string peg replaced with a modern replacement.

The Gibson Granada is the GOLD STANDARD of bluegrass banjo, with Earl Scruggs and Sonny Osborne both playing one for the majority of their careers. This banjo is housed in its original black “The Gibson” branded case. These don’t come up for sale often, and when they do, they generally don’t last long!!!
