For Sale: 1954/1965 Gibson Mastertone RB-250 Bowtie Banjo With HSC |
|
Here is a great sounding and playing Gibson Mastertone RB-250 Banjo with a TKL hard shell case. The heart of the banjo is from the same year as Allen Shelton's famous RB-250 from 1954. This was the first year that a mastertone was back in the Gibson catalog. It has a RB-250 Mastertone neck from 1965 which is fitted perfectly and to my knowledge was probably done by Sullivan, Huber or Hatfield. It has a Remo weatherking wagon wheel head and Sullivan 5/8 Crowe spaced bridge. The playability is excellent with the larger Frets from this era, it has spikes at 7, 8 and 9 frets that work excellent. In the 1950s it did have a pickup hence the small hole in the side of the original 4 hole raised head tone ring and also the bottom of the resonator these do not affect the sound or the playability. The the color of the neck and the resonator match nearly perfectly and there are signs of wear and blemishes through the years. The Finish is all original on all the banjo and all the pot assembly and metal on original except for a few newer modern Hooks and nuts. There's a piece of replaced binding by the 5th string tuner. If you're looking for a good Mastertone Bowtie that is ready to go and you don't have to worry about taking it out anywhere this is it. I do have the original metal tuning knobs and the cover for the Presto tailpiece it was just a little bit lose. I do have videos available for sound sample, asking $3299 cash in the Kentucky area, at a safe public location. No trades please and as always thanks for looking and feel free to ask any questions. No returns sold as is.
