For Sale: Doug Unger Presentation Banjo
I hate to sell this banjo (hence the price), but the wife says we need the money so here goes. This banjo is one of Doug Unger's finest - if not most audacious - works. The neck is spalted maple with enough mother of pearl to make one give up oysters for life. The headstock is based on the Fairbanks family banjo, the back is protected by the gryphion. the base of the neck is (of course) carved, and backed by more mop. The strings are tuned with 5 gold plated mother of pearl planetary tuners, and held in place at the bottom by a Vega Delux tailpiece. The head of the banjo is a 11 15/16 inch diameter Whyte Laydie ring, amply ornate with mother of pearl about the base and inside. There are no serial numbers inside, but two MOP plates declare its provenience. The sound of the banjo is rich and full, thanks to the larger than average skin head, and can hold its own as either a frailer or bluegrass player. Newer bump case included.
Really, if one owns this banjo, one need own no other.
Of course, I own 4 others, which is why I'm listing this one.
Should you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me. I'm not giving it away, that's for sure - but if you're looking for one of Doug's best works, this is worth considering. It's a beauty on all levels - and I don't plan on listing it again in this lifetime - so get it while you can!
