For Sale: Marked Down: Gibson Earl Scruggs "Golden Deluxe" Mastertone - 1994
This is a great sounding 1994 Earl Scruggs Golden Deluxe. The model was introduced by Gibson, to Earl Scruggs' specifications, in 1992 and is essentially a Granada only with an Ebony fingerboard and two extra inlays (on the first and 15th frets). It has a curly maple neck and resonator, gold plated metal hardware with Granada style engraving, ebony fingerboard with hearts and flowers mother of pearl inlays.
There is engraving on the tension hoop, the armrest, and the tailpiece. This one has the legendary Richard Kulesh copper-flashed, centrifugally-cast 10-hole flathead tone ring. It's nice and loud, and the tone is amazingly clear, sharp, and rich. It's in very good condition--nearly excellent. There are no cracks, no major dings or scratches, and nothing is broken. There are a few tiny flakes of finish off the very edge of the peghead and there is a vertical scratch on the peghead, from the "b" in the Gibson inlay all the way to the top edge. There is moderate fret wear--a long way from the need for a fret job, and the gold plating is worn away on the outer edge of the armrest (as is the case with every gold-plated banjo that has ever been played). The rest of the gold plating is in excellent shape. The tuners are pre-war style, gold-plated Waverly. The label is hand signed by Earl Scruggs! It comes in the original hard case which has a replacement handle. The banjo is well set up and plays and sounds perfect!
