For Sale or Trade: **SOLD** 1949 Gibson TB-150 Conversion w/Video
Here's a tremendous banjo just converted. This 1949 was a tenor with a busted hide head until now. These banjo's are rumored to have had prewar parts at times on them, but this one doesn't appear to. This is all 1949 hardware except for the newly added 2nd co-rod. I also added a "punched" PreWar Grover tailpiece. I had Robin Smith do the conversion work by adding a new Sloan 20-hole nickel plated flathead tone ring that I just purchased from Jerry Sloan. The neck is a new Hatfield mahogany neck. The resonator shows wear and finish checking normally associated with a 70 year old banjo. This banjo has 5th string spikes at 7, 8, and 9th frets and ships in a new Superior hard case.
The best thing about this banjo is the sound. You can feel this banjo when you play it through the reso and the left hand showing it is "open". Obviously the wood used in 1949 was still prewar wood...especially the rims. This surely lends to the tone of this banjo. Feel free to ask questions or request additional pictures.
