For Sale: Plectrum Epiphone Recording Dragon Model
Rare Epiphone plectrum banjo, "Dragon" model. Not only does it possess the perfect tone for a jazz or swing ensemble, one of my musician friends said...
"The Epiphone Dragon is quite a banjo. I always say that Epiphone Banjos are Paramounts on steroids. They have an incredible sound (and are also incredibly heavy!)."
The neck is Gabon ebony and features a peg head inlaid with the exquisitely engraved pearl dragon.
This one has an incredibly ornate fretboard alternating black and engraved MOP Pyralin fingerboard that I have not been able to find on any other Epiphone banjo. The side of the neck has ivoroid binding combined with a wood marquetry design, and a incredible heel carving.
The resonator is constructed of walnut with a rosette pattern in the center utilizing alternating strips of wood marquetry, surrounded by an inlaid wood motif which emulates the neck binding, as does the edge of the resonator.
All metal parts are gold-plated and engraved. The original gold plated tuners have been replaced with nickel plated E Page tuners, matching the friction 5th tuner.
The instrument is in excellent original condition throughout missing one original nut and missing the original armrest. A replacement gold armrest and gold hanger bolt is included for the original Epiphone tailpiece.
The plectrum neck is straigh and has been modified to accommodate a fifth string tuner. Original 4 string epiphone tailpiece is included as well as a 5 string replacement tailpiece.
I believe the plectrum neck could be restored, by removing the 5th tuner and plugging the hole, but, this banjo was recently used in three different jams by three different players. All said it was a great playable instrument as is.
$3700 with chipboard case with broken handle. I am selling this for a friend, no trades, price is firm. $100 for a better case to ship in.
