Description

Wow this was played hard. This banjo has got some serious history and mojo.

This has a maple resonator with a 3 ply hard rock maple shell. The hardware is nickel. The neck is also maple with a rosewood fretboard. The fretboard has a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern. There is white binding on each side of the neck and resonator. The binding on the top of the resonator is actually painted on there, this originally was only single bound. The headstock also has inlay work including the Gibson logo.

The hardware is all new Prucha hardware which looks great. This has a one piece armrest and a Presto tailpiece. The neck is a new Tim Davis neck. The tone ring is either a Huber Vintage ring or a First Quality ring but I am not sure which. Whatever it is the ring is a professional ring. This is a very very worn banjo but it has a lot of great parts. This has a 1970’s Gibson hardshell case.

Condition

So much of this banjo is new so overall it’s in good shape but the resonator is seriously worn. There is a crack on the side of the resonator along with all sorts of wear on the back. There is rough “burn” in the finish. I don’t mean it was on fire, there is a patch that is rough. There are lots of nicks and dings, scratches and checking in the resonator.

The neck is in great shape as is the fretboard. The frets are really clean. There are no spikes or 5th string capo but we can put those in if you’d like. The hardware looks great and it is essentially new. This is a beater but with a lot of new and clean parts. The case has wear but is in overall good shape and is structurally sound.

Set Up

This has been professionally set up here at the Banjo Warehouse. This has a new Huber frosted head which is set to 90 on a drum dial. The banjo has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings. The bridge is a Huber bridge with an ebony cap. This is set up with comfortable action which is adjustable and correct intonation. The banjo is adjustable as well. This is a great chance to get the Pre War sound at a low price.
