1929 Gibson TB2 5 string conversion Banjo

This is a nice 1929 Gibson TB2 conversion Banjo with a Huber HR30 tone ring and Robin Smith neck.  This has been fully inspected and set up here at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

This has a walnut resonator with nickel hardaware.  The finish on the resonator is original.  The shell is a hard rock maple shell.  The neck is also walnut with a rosewood fretboard.  This has a wreath inlay pattern.  There is white binding on each side of the neck and resonator.  The headstock also has inlay including the wreath inlay and the Gibson logo.  This has an original one piece armrest and the original Grover Patent Presto tailpiece.  The rest of the hardware is original.

The tone ring is a Huber HR30 tone ring which is probably the best Pre War style ring available.  The neck was made by Robin Smith who absolutely was a stellar luthier with a fantastic reputation.  This is gorgeous and also includes a newer Gibson Hardshell Case.

Condition

This is in great shape. The original finish looks wonderful.  The hardware is surprisingly clean.  It really looks great.  The flange is showing almost no pull which is a big deal.  Often these one piece flanges will warp and this has stayed very flat.  The neck and fretboard are also in great shape.  The first few frets show some light wear but that effects nothing with function.  This has no buzz and the wear is only on the first few frets.  This is in great shape.  The case is pretty worn on the outside but it is sturdy and functional and is in good shape on the inside.

Set Up

This has been professionally set up here at the Banjo Warehouse.  This has a clean Remo frosted head which has been set to 90 on a drum dial.  The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings.  The bridge is a Dotson bridge with an ebony cap.  This has nice string height (action) which is adjustable and this plays great while producing a lot of sound.  The banjo also has correct intonation.  This is a great example of a pre war conversion banjo that has been professionally set up to play and sound fantastic.
