1929 Pre War Gibson Granada 5 string Banjo
This is a 1929 Pre War Gibson Granada with a one piece flange that is a monster. This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.
This is a 1929 Pre War Gibson Granada 5 string Banjo with a one piece flange. This was a one piece flange Granada as it left the factory. The flange is not original to the banjo and came off of a 1960's RB800. However that is a vintage Gibson Gold Plated flange so it is a great option to replace this flange and looks great.
The shell and resonator were both on this banjo originally and the serial numbers do match. There are concentric rings on the back of the resonator which are really attractive. This has a cut Gibson Mastertone label due to this now having a Huber HR30 tone ring. The tailpiece is a Pre War Presto Tailpiece which is a better tailpiece fo function then the clamshell that was on it originally. The tension hoop, hooks and nuts and coordinator rods are all also pre war. The neck was built by Steve Huber and this was also fit by Steve Huber. This is a smoking hot monster of a one piece flange banjo that has some fantastic conversion pieces and was fit by a master. This also includes a hardshell case.
One Piece flange Granada banjos are the iconic and classic Bluegrass Tone. Earl Scruggs, Sonny Osborne, JD Crowe, amongst other legends are known for playing one piece flange Pre War Granadas. This banjo is loud with a beautiful sound and is also a rare banjo.
I want to mention that due to the value and rarity of this banjo we are not offering shipping or a 7 day return guarantee on this. The item will need to be picked up at the shop and upon pickup the buyer needs to make a final decision on this banjo. If we do agree to ship the buyer will be responsible for all shipping costs and liability for shipping damage and will not have a return guarantee.
This is in beautiful condition. The banjo has the vintage appearance that so many love while still being in good shape. The resonator has buckle scratching on the back and some other minor wear. Overall the finish on the resonator looks great and it's in good condition. The shell is also in good condition overall. It has been cut for the new tone ring and there are a couple of holes to the right of the neck heel. I'm not sure what those holes were for but they don't really effect anything.
The hardware also looks great while also having the Pre War appearance. A lot of the engraving has faded on the armrest but it's bold on the tension hoop. The neck and fretboard are both clean as are the frets. There are spikes at the 7th-9th frets.
This is definitely a really attractive banjo that is in really good shape considering it is nearly 100 years old!! The case is also clean.
We set up every banjo that comes through the Banjo Warehouse. This has a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90 on a drum dial. The bridge is a Huber bridge and this has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings. The bridge is set with correct intonation and the strings are set with nice action. This is also fully adjustable.
This is a classic banjo that is in great shape and set up to play and sound its best. This is a special banjo that is going to make somebody very, very happy. Check out Banjo Warehouse for all sorts of interesting New, Used and Vintage Banjos for Sale!
