For Sale: Yates/Coleman Mahogany Top Tension - REDUCED (sold)
For sale: a really incredible mahogany top tension five-string! Here's the deal:
Yates "fat boy" rim fitted to V33 unplated no-hole tone ring (by Warren Yates)
Prucha top tension hardware, antique nickel plating by Nashville Plating Service
3/4" bridge (options available...)
Solid mahogany top-tension style resonator by Clancy Mullins
Old growth mahogany
Slightly wider (approx. 1.26" at nut) with 12" radius, more pronounced "v" at lower frets
Modest style-12 inlays with fleur-de-lis headstock
Gotoh tuners w/mark tortoise keystone buttons
Spikes at 7, 8, 9, 10
And...it says Gibson on the headstock...
The neck was built by Ron Coleman, who also assembled the banjo and did fit/finish.
This banjo was built in 2016, I'm the second owner. It's in really great condition save some finish checking on the neck (which can't be felt and probably improved the tone) and a ding on one corner of the headstock (the first one hurts the worst...). I was able to attach ten photos to this ad, there are more photos available on my Hangout page. It was setup by Charlie Cushman in October last year.
Not going to mince words: this was built to replicate Noam's Gibson Style 7. Which is cool, sure. Beyond that: this is an extraordinary banjo. A dream of a banjo. It was supposed to be a lifetime banjo for me, but I have an opportunity to get into the prewar market and can't keep them all (alas).
Can send more pictures upon request, and will try to get a video or two up ASAP. If the buyer is interested I can include (at a very fair price):
- Five or six different 12" radius 3/4" inch bridges
- A wide, 12" radius Elliott capo
- A Banjolit Top Tension mahogany armrest
REDUCED to $3650 or best offer, $100 shipped to the lower 48. I'd consider partial trades for something cool (Yates, Stelling, Nechville Meteor), but really just need to raise some of that pre-war cash.
