For Sale: 12.25" Vega-Fairbanks Tubaphone Special
Well, it's getting to be that time when I got to sell my blue chips!
This is one of the rarest and most wonderful banjos I've acquired over the years. It is an original five string Tubaphone Special, built by the Vega-Fairbanks company. At 12.25", the pot is in exceptionally good condition with all original hardware. The neck is a 27" scale Gryphon without the upper star. It has all the hallmarks of the early Tubaphones with the slightly lesser than Consalvi inlay and engraving. I'm not gonna gush and say that bigger is better but once you play one of these giant beasts, an 11" banjo sounds a bit tinny! Has Ludwig Planet tuners and a modern fifth string tuner. I've long I've thought this one would be awesome with a long cammed Kershner, but for now its got a brand new reproduction.
Comes with pictured Deering HSC, which fits extremely well with spacers beneath the pot.
