1994 Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard 5 string Banjo

Description

The Earl Scruggs Standard is a copy of the banjo played for years by Earl Scruggs.  This is a Granada that has nickel hardware and an ebony fretboard just like Earl's.  The Scruggs Standard is definitely the best selling model of modern Gibson and is a powerhouse of an instrument.

This has a curly maple neck and resonator with an ebony fretboard.  The shell is a 3 ply hard rock maple shell.  This has a beautiful Hearts and Flowers inlay going up the fretboard with an extra inlay at the first fret.  That is how Earl's fretboard looked.  The hardware is nickel and all original including a Gibson USA one piece flange and a Gibson USA Kulesh Tone Ring.  This is all original and is in fantastic condition.

The case is the original Gibson case.

Condition

This has been professionally cleaned at the Banjo Warehouse and is gorgeous.  There are some kind of nicks on the back of the neck which are pictured.  They are small but worth noting.  Other then that the banjo is stunning.

All of the hardware has been taken apart and buffed to a glow.  The finish has been waxed and is also glowing.  There are a handful of light surface scratches on the resonator but I'll bet those could be buffed out, and are almost invisible.  The frets do also have some signs of use but not much.  This light fretwear does not effect the function at all, there is no buzzing.  There are no spikes and no 5th string capo and there never has been either.

The case has some wear on the outside but is sturdy and functional.  This is a really good looking banjo that has some evidence of use but not much.

Set up

This has been assembled and set up at the Banjo Warehouse as well.  The head is a Remo frosted head which is set to 90.  This has a Sosebee bridge which is set with correct intonation.   The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and the action is set to play fast with great volume.  This banjo is a hoss with some major tone and is cleaned and set up to look, play and sound it's best.
