Presented here is a spectacular presentation custom resonator banjo made by the late world-renowned banjo Luthier, Dale Small. Dale is one of the most celebrated makers of custom unique Banjos in the last 50 years. One of Dale’s Banjos‘s is on permanent exhibit at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC and he has others in the banjo Hall of Fame Museum. This particular banjo is quite unique as are all of his Banjos. The theme of this banjo is our American heritage. It is constructed of a maple rim resonator and neck with spectacular hand carving that is hand dyed. It has a Brazilian Rosewood armrest and is currently fitted with a Richelieu master mute and tone enhancer. The Ebony headstock overlay and Ebony fingerboard is inlayed with mother of Pearl, expertly engraved depictions of American landmarks and historical themes. The neck carving features Abraham Lincoln and the American Flag. The resonator is a breathtaking carving of the Great Seal of the United States featuring the Stars and Stripes, a spectacular American Eagle holding arrows and a branch with red fruit, And the EvPluribus Unum ribbon is held in the Eagle’s mouth. All of this against the backdrop of the solid flamed maple resonator. The neck is solid highly flamed tiger stripe hard rock maple with a multi-laminate blackstrap. The back of the headstock features a gorgeous birdseye Mable burl slab which descends into the backstrap. It is adorned with six machine heads giving an assortment of possible banjo incarcerations, including banjo guitar, tenor banjo, baritone ukulele banjo or the way I have it currently set up as a five string banjearine. The tone is really strong and the the banjo has great volume and projection. It is fitted with a unique heavy cast bronze tonering of Dale’s design. The scale length is 21&5/8” and the nut width is 1.25” the neck profile is a comfortable C shape. This banjo is a sensational work of art and a masterpiece of luthier craftsmanship that is highly playable in a variety of different setups. Dale never made the same banjo twice. Each one was a singularly unique design and work of art. This banjo sounds great and is a tribute to America the Beautiful. A true heirloom instrument that needless to say will always be a jaw dropping sensation as soon as it comes out of the case.
