The Earl Scruggs Standard is a copy of the banjo played by Earl Scruggs and is the most popular model of Gibson Banjo.
This has a standard 3 ply hard rock maple shell with a curly maple neck and resonator. The neck and resonator each have w/b/w binding. This has an ebony fretboard with a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern. The hardware is nickel and all original including a Gibson USA one piece flange and a Gibson USA Kulesh AFP Tone Ring. The tuners are original 5 star planetary tuners, one piece amrest, Presto tailpiece. The banjo is all original and includes a Gibson hardshell case which was likely made in the early 1980ís. Finally the label is hand signed by Earl Scruggs and that is a real signature.
This is in great shape and has been professionally cleaned at the Banjo Warehouse. This has been disassembled and the hardware has all been buffed to a shine. The finish on the resonator has heavy checking which in a way is very good because it is an indication the finish is original. The finish that was used during the Rich era commonly checks like this so this is a sign the finish is original. We still waxed all of the finish and it looks great. The fretboard has been cleaned and oiled and the frets are in good shape with only light wear. There are spikes at frets 7 and 9. There was a 5th string capo once which has left two pin sized holes in the binding on the side of the neck which have been plugged. There also is some finish worn off of the sides of the neck which is pictured. The banjo has some minor wear but it has been cleaned up and looks fantastic and the Gibson case is super clean inside and out.
This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse. The head is a new Huber frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge is a Frank Neat bridge. This has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and this is set up with fabulous action. This feels great to play and is oozing with tone and volume. These Rich era Scruggs Standards with the AFP Kulesh Ring are the most coveted and always sell fast. This is a stellar opportunity to get one of these banjo.
