This is a 1926 Bacon & Day Silver Bell No. 5 tenor banjo, one of the highest-grade Silver Bell models produced, rarely seen on the open market.
This example is largely original. The Planet tuners are present, the Oettinger tailpiece is intact, and the original soft pedal/knee mute, often missing on these, is included (not currently installed). There was one minor armrest modification that left three small holes on the top of the armrest. It comes in the original hardshell zipper case, with zipper intact.
There is an old headstock repair. The crack did not go through to the face and the repair is stable and professional. This is reflected in the asking price. Additional photos upon request.
Included is the original Sherman, Clay & Co. bill of sale dated May 7, 1927, and the original installment contract from 1926, both referencing serial #17525, and both signed by the original purchaser.
Asking $4750 OBO. Will ship at buyer’s expense, can ship overseas. Local pickup near Boston, MA
